Trusculpt 3D for Body Contouring Q & A

What is TruSculpt 3D?

TruSculpt 3D is the newest advancement in No Downtime, Non-Invasive body contouring procedure that reduce fat by an average of 24%, measured by ultra sound.  It is RF (radio frequency) technology that delivers deep heating energy to break apart and destroy fat cells. After the fat cells have been destroyed, the body metabolizes them and permanently eliminates them from the body. The deep heating of the skin also stimulates the production of collagen and causes the skin to tighten, which can reduce the appearance of cellulite and improve the overall appearance of the skin.

Am I a candidate for truSculpt 3D?

The provider will determine whether you are a candidate for truSculpt 3D during the consultation. Typically, appropriate patients have a BMI less than 35.

Can truSculpt 3D be used on all skin types?

Yes, this treatment can be done on all skin types.

How long does a treatment take?

Treatment time depends on the areas treated. To treat an abdomen and both flanks (4 areas) will take about 60 minutes.

How many treatments will be needed?

Patients typically see results after one treatment. We recommend 2 treatments, 2nd treatments immediately 6 weeks after the 1st treatment for optimal results.*

How do you prepare for a truSculpt 3D treatment?

Jewelry or body piercings should be removed if they are located in the treatment area. The skin should also be shaved clean without any body hair.

What areas can be treated with truSculpt 3D?

Stubborn pockets of fat can be reduced in a variety of areas including, but not limited to: tummy, love handles, flanks, inner & outer thighs, Bra & back, under Arms area and under the chin.  If you can squeeze it, we can treat it!

What will the treatment feel like?

The treatment is performed using a technique that requires the operator to lightly glide the handpiece over the area being treated. The temperature will slowly heat up and is very comfortable. Most patients comment that the procedure feels like a hot stone massage.

Can I return to normal activities after my treatment?

There is no downtime or side effect after this treatment. You can return to all normal activities immediately after the treatment.  The treatment area may feel tender following the treatment, but this will resolve within a few days

When will I see results?

After the treatment, your body’s immune system will start to break down and flush out the fat cells that were treated leading to circumferential reduction. Everyone’s body does so at a different rate however, on average, people will see results around 8-10 weeks after the treatment and continuing improvement up to 12 weeks.**

Can truSculpt 3D be used as a weight loss technique?

TruSculpt 3D is designed to reduce mild to moderate fat deposits that are diet- and exercise-resistant. It is not to replace diet and exercise for weight loss or treating obesity. Should the patient desire more comprehensive treatment, they may benefit from liposuction. In these cases, truSculpt 3D should only be used to complement the results of liposuction, not replace the surgery.

What does a trusculpt 3d treatment cost?

Cost will vary based on the number of areas treated, surface area of each, and total number of sessions needed based on patient’s specific aesthetic goals.

How is truSculpt 3D comparing to Coolsculpting?

  1. Heat vs Cold.  truSculpt 3D uses heat technology vs Coolsculpting uses freezing technology for fat reduction.  Heat technology has been known to improve skin tightening and tone; whereas cold technology has been quite neutral with skin laxity.
  2. Time.  15 minutes for truSculpt 3D vs 35 minutes for Coolsculpting per treatment area.  An average patient with 4 treatment areas such as abs and flanks would save about 80 minutes of treatment time with truSculpt 3D.
  3. Body Type.  truSculpt 3D can benefit patients who are either too large or too small for CoolSculpting’s suction applicators
  4. Cost vs Result.  Due to lower disposable costs, truSculpt 3D delivers comparable fat reduction result to Coolsculpting (24% for truSculpt 3D vs 22% for Coolsculpting) at a lower average cost per treatment ($500 per treatment area for truSculpt 3D vs $600 per treatment area for Coolsculpting)
  5. Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia (PAH) with Coolsculpting.  PAH is a rare, permanent side effect from Coolsculpting, with an incidence rate of 1 per 20,000 procedures (0.0051%).  Instead of fat reduction, PAH causes enlargement of the treated area due to reaction from freezing of the fat cell.  As of to date, no single unifying risk factor has been identified for PAH, which means anyone regardless of gender, age, sex, or body type could experience PAH from Coolsculpting. Unfortunately, there is no non-surgical resolution for Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia.

* Recommended 3 treatments for under arms area and under the chin

** Results may vary with different patient experiences.

What is non-surgical body contouring?

Non-surgical body contouring involves destroying fat cells from outside the body. Body contouring usually involves one of four methods:

  • Laser: As fat cells absorb laser energy, the cells break down and leave the body.
  • Radiofrequency: Radiofrequency heats fat cells to the point of destruction.
  • Cold: Exposure to cold freezes fat cells until they deteriorate.
  • Ultrasound: Focused sound waves disrupt and then destroy fat cells.

What areas can body contouring help with?

Modern body contouring technology allows you to tackle fat deposits that you just don’t seem to budge with diet and exercise. Treatments target fat that seems to hang on in your trouble zones like the:

  • Tummy pooch
  • Muffin top
  • Love handles
  • Bird wings
  • Turkey neck

What should I consider before choosing body contouring?

First, you should consider your goals for body contouring treatment. Dr. Tien can assess your needs and discuss which treatments are appropriate for you.

Body contouring is best for people who haven’t had success trimming their bodies with diet and exercise. It’s not a weight loss solution but rather a means of defining stubborn areas of fat on the body of those who are close to their ideal weight.

Dr. Tien also considers your medical history before using any body contouring techniques. Past surgeries, current medications, and other factors may affect your candidacy for body contouring.

Finally, you should consider the cost of body contouring procedures before making your decision. Insurance doesn't cover body contouring treatments.

What are the advantages of non-surgical body contouring?

Non-surgical body contouring treatments require zero downtime so that you can resume your daily routine directly from the office. You also don’t have to bother about the healing time, risks, pain or side effects associated with surgery.

Body contouring also makes fat disappear for good. After the procedures destroy fat cells, the body flushes them out so those particular fat cells can’t regenerate.

Finally, body contouring is effective at removing fat cells. TruSculpt® 3D, for example, boasts up to a 24% reduction in fat at the treatment site.
